MOROCCAN THUYA WOOD MORTAR & PESTLE

This small Mortar & Pestle is hand carved from Moroccan Thuya Wood by artisans in a small coastal town called Essaouira in Morocco.

It can be used not only to pound your food but also to decorate your kitchen!

A pretty small mortar of good quality, pleasant to the touch, very PRACTICAL with its light weight and that is vital for your wrist and thumb. Very useful for small quantities! Easy to use and easy to maintain, like any Thuya wooden object.

It is also a beautiful decorative object made of a noble material.

The Thuya tree is a Coniferous tree indigenous to the Western Atlas mountains of North Africa; its burl is a dense wood with a high oil content. Its color varies from rich golden brown to nearly black. This unique tree produces a large underground root with many outgrowths. The Greeks named it “Thuya” meaning sacrifice, because they used an oil distilled from it as incense in their religious ceremonies .
